2007-2008 Rankings are Out!

The initial 2007-2008 rankings are now out, which you can view in the ranking section. There’s a complete list of rules that go into the rankings, as well as a complete list of teams. Here’s a recap of the top 10 teams and how they have fared this semester:


1. Texas A&M- Coming off another win at Nationals, A&M had a strong semester, winning the Central Texas Regional, placing 2nd in the Houston Regional 1, and then beating Texas in a dual match 21-11. They also received bonus points for 2nd teams finishing in the top 25% of each of their tournaments.


2. Texas- Despite losing a dual match to A&M, Texas played in 3 tournaments in the fall, winning the Houston Regional 1, and placing 2nd in the Central Texas Regional, and the Badger Classic. Their 2nd place finish at the Badger Classic shows their strength in comparison with other teams around the country. Texas also received bonus points for 2nd teams finishing in the top 25% of their Section Tournaments.


3. Florida- Florida competed in 3 tournaments over the fall. They started out with their men winning the FSU doubles tournament, women placing 2nd. At the Gator Bowl, their men looked strong again, taking the title while the women finished in third. The women stepped it up at the Knightro Cup winning the tournament, with the men finishing 2nd.


4. Virginia- Despite a close loss to William and Mary, UVA had wins over Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and James Madison. Their team also finished in 4th at the Battle of the Sections: Northeast in NYC.


5 (Tied). Penn State- Penn State started strong by winning the Battle of the Sections, showing how they stack up in Intersectional competition. They had convincing wins over Villanova, Delaware, and Bucknell, and finished the semester undefeated as their top 2 teams met in the final of the Middle States Section Championships.


5 (Tied). Wisconsin- The Badgers played a ton of dual matches this semester, finishing at 11-1 for the fall. They also played strong in tournaments, winning the Gopher Invitational, and also winning their home-tournament the Badger Classic. With wins over Texas and Colorado in that tournament, Wisconsin proved that they’re among the nation’s elite.


7. Colorado- Travelling probably the most out of any team this year, Colorado did very well. They finished in the final 4 in both Level 5 tournaments (4th in the Fall Brawl, 3rd in the Badger Classic), and won the Pioneer Invitational against some tough Intermountain teams.


8. Virginia Tech- Despite a loss to UVA, Virginia Tech did phenomenal in dual match competition with wins over VCU, Clemson and South Carolina. They also did well in tournaments, losing a tough final to Penn State at the Battle of the Sections and finishing 3rd at the Virginia Fall Invitational.


9. Georgia- Georgia did fairly well in the Gator Bowl, with their men finishing 3rd and women finishing 2nd. They also placed 2nd at the Fall Brawl, losing a close match to NC State in the final.


10. Georgia Tech- Georgia Tech did well, winning their home tournament, and finishing 7th at the Fall Brawl.
