The Mid-Atlantic and Midwest Campus Championships had a record number of teams come out. However, only two teams would take the titles.
In a repeat of last year, UVA and Virginia Tech both appeared in the final at the Mid-Atlantic Campus Championships. However this year, UVA came out victorious, edging out Tech in a close 26-24 win. Georgetown finished in 3rd after VCU forfeited the consolation match. William and Mary won the Silver bracket with a 28-19 win over Johns Hopkins. Look for UVA and Virginia Tech to have strong showings at Nationals.
Two teams from the same school again met in the Midwest Campus Championships finals. Instead of perennial powerhouse Michigan like last year, Wisconsin's A and B teams finished first and second respectively. With 24 teams from 17 schools, the weekend brought a great deal of competition. "It was awesome to have both our A team and B team finish 1st and 2nd," said Andrew Rebhun, President of UW Tennis Club. Michigan A ended up placing 3rd after losing to Wisconsin A in the semi-final. They beat Illinois A in the consolation.
These are two huge wins for both schools, as they gear up for the USTA Campus Championships in Cary, NC. They look to be heavily favored in their quest for a National Title.
