It's that time of year where the majority of Sections hold their Championships. Are there upsets in the making? Will the same powerhouses dominate again. Let's find out:
February 16th-17th
Eastern: Teams from across New York are expected to attend, and perennial winner Cornell could face a tough test. SUNY-Geneseo had a strong fall, and Syracuse actually beat Cornell earlier in the year. Rutgers is another strong team that's seen it's share of good competition this year in the Battle of the Sections and the Badger Classic. After a tough fall though, Cornell most recently beat a tough Syracuse team in the Western Region Championships.
New England: Harvard has won this championship over the past couple years, but club tennis has grown in New England with teams from Northeastern and Yale looking strong in the Battle of the Sections in September.
February 22nd-24th
Southern California: Southern California has a strong field with UCLA and USC, two top contenders. One of these schools will likely be crowned champion, but an upset could be in the works from a couple other schools such as Cal-San Diego, or Cal-Fullerton.
Midwest: Some of the strongest teams in the country are from the Midwest Section so anything could happen here. Will 5th ranked Wisconsin be able to defend their crown after placing 1st and 2nd last year? Or will Michigan reclaim the title after winning in previous years? It could be another school to pull out a first-ever win as well with Illinois, Miami (Ohio), and Wisconsin-Milwaukee all ranked in the top 20. This tournament promises to be one of the best in the country.
